I am still working with Brookhaven Town Parks Department and Town Legislator Kathleen Walsh in trying to access funds to improve the park.
This weekend a bench was stolen from the park which I knew would happen eventually. If anyone has any info please let me know.
The Town has been advised and I am also following up on replacement playground equipment that was ordered and not fixed yet since the arson incident.
Please continue to observe and report even though the fall and winter months are upon us and less people frequent the park in the cold months.

Ronkonkoma Man Charged with Making Graffiti

A Ronkonkoma man was arrested on charges of making graffiti.
Ryan Atkinson, 25, of 34 Lakeside Dr., was charged with seven counts of making graffiti, according to Suffolk Police.
He met with Taylor S. Schotter, 25, of Selden, at a graffiti taggers Website and coordinated their activities through online communications.
Sixth Precinct Crime Section Officers conducted an investigation into graffiti tagging in the area after a proliferation of the specific tags "ROBO" and "KEANU". These tags were placed on roadway and railway overpasses, buildings, road signs and fences. A request for assistance through Crime Stoppers produced an anonymous tip that led to the identity of the two graffiti suspects.
Schotter was responsible for the tag "ROBO" and Atkinson was responsible for the tag "KEANU".
Schotter was charged with four counts of Making Graffiti and released on station house bail with a future court date in November.
Atkinson was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip and remanded to Riverhead Correctional Facility pending payment of bail.
Due to damages made to property belonging to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, officers of the Sixth Precinct Police are coordinating their investigation with the MTA Police. Additional charges are anticipated and the investigation is continuing.

Meeting with Park Patrol Tuesday 08.17
August 17th's meeting at Dorchester Park went very well. We had Director of Public Safety Joe Kirstinger speak to us about Brookhaven Town's role in Public Safety/Code Enforcement and Park Rangers. We also had our COPE Officer speak to us, as well as Mark Langone who is a resident from Ronkonkoma that had issues with repeated Mailbox Vandalism (see previous posts).

Mailbox Vandals Caught on Camera
Lake Ronkonkoma teens abuse neighbors property, so he shot video.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and when your mailbox is vandalized 10 times in a six-month span, mounting a surveillance camera to catch the perpetrators qualifies.
Marc Langone, who lives in Lake Ronkonkoma, had enough and purchased a night vision camera that shoots decent quality video (see video on the right) to catch the vandals in the act.
"It was happening like clockwork," he said. "It got completely out of hand."
The last incident was July 24 around 2:30 a.m. and the video depicts a group of young teens beating up the mailbox, knocking it out of the ground and eventually running away with the property.
Suffolk County Police handed the incident off to its Crime Section group, who followed up on the case Wednesday. The department's Public Information Office confirmed that investigators are working the case now.
Langone recorded footage on June 14 with a different camera, but the quality wasn't as good.
"With that incident the group of kids were actually filming themselves too," he said. "One kid actually dove into the mailbox. The quality of my video wasn't that good. I thought maybe the police could enhance it. They said there wasn't enough detail."
Now that he has better video and an angle to possibly help exterminate the crime occurring on his property, Langone is pleased.
"It would be good to get it out there to the public," he said. "It is punishable and people are watching."
Mailbox vandalism falls under the category of "criminal mischief" in Suffolk County.
"Too often nowadays we wake up to the horror of having what would be a relaxing and event filled weekend morning turn into a trip to the local home improvement store followed by hours of repair, installation work to fix broken mailboxes or fences," Langone said.
Langone is hopeful that moving forward more people will be inclined to take proper actions against such crimes to their property.
