Park Rangers

Please be aware that as of Nov.17th 2011, the eight(8) Park Rangers in Brookhaven Town are being most likely "laid off", as well as Code Enforcement (Park Police) cut-backs. This is not good. If anyone has the time to call and voice a complaint, please do so. Call our Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh's office at 631-451-6647 0r by e-mail at councilwomanwalsh@brookhaven.org

Many thanks,

Your Neighborhood Watch Captain

  2. Good Morning Councilwoman Walsh,

I have just written to Tom Owens, but thought I would write to you as well.

I am wondering what is taking so long to install the gates at all four (4) entrances/exits to Dorchester Park? I was told and advised my entire Neighborhood Watch members that gates were approved in mid-July. I have followed up with Tom Owens three times now and have been advised that a contract was in the works.

I would appreciate it if you can help with this matter as gates are extremely important to us at Dorchester Park due to the high speed of cars traveling on Sycamore Ave and the ignorance of the Children at Play Signage and STOP sign. We almost had 3 incidences this past summer of small children almost being hit by cars. Is it going to take a child to get seriously injured to get gates installed? Per our last verbal conversation, you had advised me that gates would not be "too costly", yet they have yet to be installed.

Also, my Neighborhood Watch Community and I very upset about to hear about the Park Rangers lay-offs coming Nov 17th. Can you give me more details about that issue? The Park Rangers are truly the folks that helped my community last year in addition to the Suffolk County Police Department and Sheriff's Department. It is a shame that drug dealers will take over our parks and make it unsafe for our innocent children...
